Thanks! I'll take that as a great compliment!

I have pondered the future of this blog and my life in music as a enthusiast / reviewer / DJ / blogger though I have never thought of myself as much of a writer. Thus far I've also kept most of my writing brief (this response perhaps excluded... heh). I am doubtful any publication would accept me into their format. I had an opportunity once upon a time with adequacy.net (Delusions of Adequacy), and actually did some tech support and web mastering for them. It was a lot of work and not much fun because I had control and no real sense of ownership.

I really think of myself more as a DJ. I pick out the songs, and perhaps I have something to say about the song, or something barely related about the song to say, but the focus is the song. Also, at the moment, my hope is to attract some sort of following. Now that I have my own site outside of wordpress.com, I will be easier to track returning visitors and I can better gauge if I am just drawing random visitors from search engines or if people are actually coming to hear my playlist, and perhaps even hear (er...read) what I have to say. If I do develop a following, then maybe I'll pursue a Rolling Stone, Spin, Delusions of Adequacy, or some other publication. If not, then I'll just keep on selecting my own songs for my own enjoyment and the enjoyment of the few people I personally know who ask me "what are you listening to" or "what good new music have you heard lately".

If I'm really lucky I'll corner the "Song A Day" blog market and it will be Rolling Stone coming to me! Ha! I wish! I probably rely on other sources of information too much for that to ever occur. Being first with new music is important. However I was actually approached by a group in New York City asking if I would review their music. They kind of overloaded me with songs to the point I have yet to hear them all. I should have another listen though because if I review something that then takes off I may make a name for myself. Hmmm...

Another thing I have pondered is actually being a "real life" DJ for parties or other events. The barrier there is some of my collection is only 128 kbps (not good for loud speakers), there are holes in my collection if I want to service the "party crowd" (e.g. weddings), and I also have none of the speakers, amps, hardware that would be required. I also don't know how well it pays or how much fun it would be. I've thought about approaching local radio stations too to be a DJ there, but with that I have no experience and I'm likely to get the 2 AM to 4 AM shift which would not jive with my day job, if I can get any shift at all. Besides I think I'd rather put my time into actually playing and making music (I play the drums and the cello, and I am thinking of taking up guitar and maybe even some keyboarding), which I wish I had more time for as is. Sometimes I wonder if I should quit this blog thing so I can do more of that.

Ultimately this day job thing really takes up too much of my time to pursue all my musical desires. But it pays the bills. Damn bills. If only I knew a website where I could learn to live with less stuff so I didn't need all this money. Hmmm. *facetious tones resonate across the land*

Hey TSOTD!

Wow, you are prolific. Or maybe I have slowed due to my tryptophan indulgence (free range organic). Have you ever thought of freelancing for Rolling Stone or any other sort of music periodical (do they still call them that)? You're that good. If the thought hasn't crossed your mind already, give it a ponder.
