Gorillaz – "Stylo (feat. Mos Def and Bobby Womack)" (2010)

2010/03/02

Gorillaz is an argument for serious collaboration between artists from different areas of music. With Damon Albarn (of Blur fame), the musical creator, and Jamie Hewlett (of Tank Girl fame) the visual, acting as the glue, it has the cohesiveness of a band, and yet many contributors are only involved in a piece of Gorillaz, and sometimes only a single song. The quality is so much greater than the typical remix or duo single. It is no surprise this virtual band has a following, myself included! I've been waiting for their next album, "Plastic Beach", forever it seems. It comes out tomorrow March 3rd (in Japan), but next week in the UK and USA (March 8th and 9th respectively).

*drools a little*

I can't wait.

PS: How cool that they got Bruce Willis for the video too!

  1. Always looking forward to see what Albarn's got up his sleeve.

    • Totally. He evolves and his music with him.

I've been listening to "The Good, The Bad & The Queen" the past few days. It didn't rock my world when it came out, the way Gorillaz's "Demon Days" did, but re-listening to it today something clicked for me. Perhaps "The Good, The Bad & The Queen" is better with age? Maybe I'm just hungry for more Albarn creations now and because the new Gorillaz is not out just yet, I'll take what I can get!?

By the way, I'm diggin' your blog, jhostation.com. It looks Grrreat! (Yes I had some Frosted Flakes the other day… they are still wearing off.) Seriously though, you're definitely a contender for my "Top 10 Song of the Day Blogs" list when I update it, probably in a couple months. It appears to be one of my more popular pages. I'll keep you posted!

  2. I appreciate it, still new and a work in progress, as is everything. Love the work you're doing on this site. Anyone who wants to marry Sixteen Tons, Buena Vista Social Club, Peter Cetera and the latest Gorillaz, all in a week, is my kind of entertainment. Nicely done.

Totally missed the boat on the Good, the Bad and the Queen. I tend to stay away from any "supergroup" project, but I'll give it a listen. Cheers!
