Modest Mouse – "Float On" (2004)

2010/03/15

The addictive bouncy guitar part of "Float On" by Modest Mouse is stuck in my head. After further listening to Modest Mouse (since last time I posted one of their songs) and playing this song in particular on Rock Band, I think I would love Modest Mouse if it were not for the style of singing by Isaac Brock. Perhaps it is my years of singing in choir that just make me think he is not good. He almost has something unique and interesting. He is almost like David Byrne, lead singer of Talking Heads. But no. It is just unpolished and unoriginal. Isaac almost ruins the song for me. I love the rest of it though, and if I didn't like it over all I would not post it. I tend not to post the music I don't like or go on about what I don't like about a song. I'm not here to rate or critique for the most part. It just bugs me because I think they could be great.

Regardless, it is the song stuck in my head. Thus per my own personal rules, it is the song of the day!

  1. I'm with ya on Modest Mouse. I'm trying to give the rest of their music a chance, tossed it all into full random on my iTunes. Now if I can stay out of enough phone conferences during work I'll be able to listen to some music!

    • Yeah… I think it is his singing. I know lots of people love them, and I am usually very forgiving about such things. It just seems like it could be better to me. Alas. I'll never be a huge Modest Mouse fan.
