Gravity Kills – "Guilty" (1996)

2010/03/24

I need to release some stress. I need some Industrial. Don't you need some Industrial too sometimes? No I am guessing most people turn to other things… punk perhaps, metal and all of its forms, hard rock even. Sometimes I reach for those, but today I feel like some Industrial. Industrial hit me at the right time, but just doesn't have as wide an appeal as I thought it might back in the 90s. Time for me to dig out my Nine Inch Nails and God Lives Underwater for a couple more weeks until I am free of my current burden.

By the way, this song may be familiar from movies like Seven (a classic but disturbing movie) and Mortal Kombat (maybe not so much).

  1. That's a forgotten song from 96. Always thought it was a Filter follow up to their first album. Nice pick. Try some Ministry to relieve the burden.

    • Sadly I have no Ministry in my collection but a number are on Youtube. Thanks for the tip! They go well with the rest of the playlist I put together today which included, Gravity Kills (of course), God Lives Underwater, NIN, Marilyn Manson, Alice in Chains, and All That Remains.

I shared the a couple songs with one of my coworkers. I think it was an All That Remains song. She said something like "I want to slit my wrists listening to this". Most of my coworkers like about 3 bands each. So sad. I actually find all this music calming though. Somehow listening to the angst and anger filled music meets some of my need to express my own angst and anger. When you're angry, you want angry music, and at the end of it, you are less angry. I'm sure lots of people have the same experience. I did bust out some Submarines in the middle though, but that was during lunch when I was free to leave the windowless room in which I work, and enjoy a little clear sky and sunshine.

  2. Love me some angry teenage boy music! I second Ministry. Add some Helmet to that lovely lovely list!

    • Will do! My parents gave me a lot a freedom in my teenage years so I was more likely to listen to bands like James, R.E.M., or U2, than Ministry or Helmet. I find now that I have bosses and managers who don't give me the freedom I want to do my job the way I want provide me with more teenage like angst than I've ever had, and more reason to seek out heavier and angrier music. I'm going through my teenage angst late I guess!
