The Greg Kihn Band – "The Breakup Song (They Don't Write 'Em)" (1981)
2010/05/13
I've been wearing a big dumb grin the past couple weeks. You would think I'd still be wearing it but today, on my first full day after the "break up" (with my job of almost 7 years… for those of you just catching up). But no. Here I am on my much needed vacation kind of pooped and saddened. Sure it is nice to be relieved of the responsibility, but it is kind of sad too. I've left a boat load of people I've known for years. I have left things I created I use to call "my babies". I have left a place where I have spent a lot of time and effort. Ah well, maybe the sun will come out and hang in the sky for a spell.

I'm moderately amused at your sadness, given how badly you wanted out. Not saying you don't have every reason to be sad, just saying it seems like they're somehow managing to take away your chance for some happiness even after you're free from their grasp.
Fear not. It will pass. This is the right decision and I have no regrets. I'm just recognizing that it wasn't all bad. There were good things and good people. I'm just realizing I'm going to miss them.
It's understandable that the emotions are mixed. But you must know that you have done the right thing for yourself. I suspect that these feelings will subside and be replaced by excitement and anticipation as the next job's start date nears. You'll be great!
This song is totally stuck in my head now. Thanks. I think.
