Hard to imagine this song was recorded just months before Germany invaded Poland, and all the events that followed. It seems like a kind of calm before the storm. Glenn Miller joined the military to be part of the Army Air Force Band, and help with the war effort the best way he could. While travelling to France only five years after this song was released, to entertain the United States soldiers there, his plane disappeared over the English Channel and it is still unknown what happened. His military status is "missing in action" to this day, but musically he is clearly a "legend".
