George Crumb – "Black Angels" (1970)

2010/10/31

Part I. Departure:

Part II. Absence:

Part III. Return:

Halloween is finally here!

I am feeling very much "in the mood" given some recent nightmares I've had. (Yes I am turning 6 years old again and nightmares have returned just in time for Halloween!) I've actually been inspired to combine and write them into a short story or perhaps something longer. We will see if I can succeed in turning lemons into lemonade, or perhaps "blood into blood wine" would be a better analogy. Weird and creepy shit though, like this song…

This is possibly one of the creepiest instrumental songs I've ever heard. Oh and this is no synthesizer piece. Those are real strings. I sense disbelief! You have to see this live performance of Part I:

Happy Halloween everyone!

Léon Boëllmann – "Suite Gothique – Toccata" (1895)

2010/10/30

A little Gothic organ on the eve of All Hallow's Eve seems appropriate.

Malicorne – "La Conduite" (1978)

2010/10/27

Don't let the opening to the song throw you off. This song is like some sort of Gothic march or a medieval Celtic dirge. A good song to listen to while walking through the graveyard listening to your iPod, not that I EVER do that. Clearly only freaks would do such a thing. Although there are some really neat stones…

The Misfits – "Halloween" (1981)

2010/10/26

This day anything goes
Burning bodies hanging from poles

…enough about my life.

Between this one, The Specials, and The Stranglers, it appears 1981 was a good year for Halloween songs. I don't think I have another queued up, but we'll see!

PS: Was that song too short for you? That song was too short for me. Here is "Halloween II":
