Before showing the video above, Youtube INSISTED on showing me a right-wing advertisement against allowing the creation of the mosque in New York City. (Link to the fuckers' ad.) I am of the opinion the Muslims who set out to do create the mosque have to now even if it does become a focal point for the nut baggers. Muslims involved have to to express their religious freedom (the 1st amendment, as you may recall). For them to fold and walk away now would be like saying it is okay to marginalize people based on religious beliefs (and we know where that can lead).
It also raises questions like, are ALL Muslims to blame for 9-11? Are any mosques created or existing in New York City okay? New York State? The Northeast? Where is the line that is "too close to ground zero"? Tribeca? Soho? Midtown? Do the people who "deeply care" about this issue even know where those places are? Probably not.
Alternatively, to make it fair, perhaps no churches should be allowed close to Ground Zero? Then we can step on everyone's rights equally? The political fight over the mosque sounds like another distraction from the real issues of the day. Yet the discussion reveals just how sickening some people in the United States of America are. Had the terrorists been Jewish or Christian, would this blatant religious oppression and racism be occurring?
If the right-wingers involved (who ironically like to talk about protecting "freedom" while trying to take it away from people) succeed in somehow making it illegal for the mosque to be created, then they are traitors to the constitution, the bill of rights, the founding fathers, and thus arguably the United States of America. I am but one citizen but I'm pretty sure most New Yorkers would either agree OR not give a shit and tell anyone who is not in the city discussing this to piss off and let the New Yorkers decide. Without those freedoms granted by the constitution and the bill of rights, New York City would just be a large lame ghost town (and yes that is my lame tie in to the song of the day… deal with it… and if you don't like the mosque in NYC… deal with it too).
PS: I find "the liberal media" thing confusing. It is really the "corporate media". The media consistently does want to do anything that would upset the financial markets and our sacred capitalism. Aside from that there seem to be just as many left and right talking heads on the TV. The correct answer when you see anyone spouting political opinions on the TV is to TURN OFF THE TV and DO SOMETHING ELSE WITH YOUR LIFE other than sit there and let them manipulate you.
