Jellyfish – "New Mistake" (1993)

2011/01/31

A new job. A choice I made. I hope I love my new mistake. Better yet, I hope it is not a mistake at all! I think I shall go find out now! Wish me luck!

The Decemberists – "Down By The Water" (2011)

2011/01/30

Breaking TSotD's seal on 2011, here is my first selection from the new year, though the new year is already 1/12th done. Oh how the time flies! Fear not, I will catch up as I did with 2010!

The Black Keys – "Too Afraid To Love You" (2010)

2011/01/29

Perhaps I missed The Black Keys on my Top 10 Albums of 2010? Such lists are all poppycock anyway. Most music is born of inspiration and emotion and can you really rank them in order? I think not.

PS: If you want an expansive quality list of albums from 2010, check out this one!

Vampire Weekend – "Diplomat's Son" (2010)

2011/01/28

Today is my last day of a job that has made me more scatterbrained than I could've ever imagined. Over 8 months I have worked with about 200 people, responsible for about 60 applications, picking up the slack for my coworker, who left 5 months ago. I have learned a lot and I have enjoyed my window office, but otherwise I think I am happy to move on. I am optimistic that freeing my mind will help me to focus more on the things that are really important.

Thus, I would like to dedicate this selection to my wife, G. (One of her favorites from Vampire Weekend.)

PS: Any of you Paul Simon fans out there should really check out "Contra". You'll love it. Trust me!

Murray Head – "One Night in Bangkok" (1984)

2011/01/27

A local DJ played this yesterday, declaring those who had requested it as "cheesy" and claiming it would get stuck in our heads. She was right on both counts.

One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster!

America – "A Horse With No Name" (1972)

2011/01/26

A little change… A little pause to reflect… It can be good for the soul.

I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain

Micachu & The Shapes – "Curly Teeth" (2009)

2011/01/25

A friend sent me a link to the video above with only "OMG". And my response was "Like OMG!", in true Valley Girl lingo. Though… Micachu is from Surrey (England) so perhaps we're more like Essex Girls? Somehow I'm guessing the stereotypical Essex Girl is not listening to Micachu. Wha'ever!

The album version is more noise poppy and less folky, but also worth your ears too:
