Phil would be happy to know someone still cares.

His legacy is solid. He is a household name without being a flash in the pan (like most Pop artists). He has 8 or so solo albums and 13 or so with Genesis. "Collins is one of only three recording artists (along with Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson) who have sold over 100 million albums worldwide both as solo artists and (separately) as principal members of a band."
I must agree with Collins though. He and Genesis are not widely noted as pivotal "influences" by bands today. Where does he fit today? His influence on music today may appear in doubt. During much of his musical career, Collins was travelling well paved roads in Pop Rock, Soft Rock, and Adult Contemporary. His earlier, more Progressive Rock songs when he was with Genesis, are most likely to have lasting, but subtle influence I think.
Perhaps a touch of evidence of that…
Sounds like them, no?

… I think he'll be okay. Plus he can always come out of retirement, put out another album, and still sell a gazillion of them if he wants.
PS: I know I'm holding on to my Phil Collins & Genesis albums. I do still care!
