I heard some Caribbean street music this weekend, but I don't really know much Caribbean music. It did make me think of this group Uakti from Brazil (not Carribbean, I know) who does some very interesting and lyrical percussion music. According to Wikipedia…

The name of the group comes from a Tukano native South American legend. Uakti was a mythological being who lived on the banks of the Rio Negro. His body was full of holes, which, when the wind passed through them, produced sounds that bewitched the women of the tribe. The men hunted down Uakti and killed him. Palm trees sprouted up in the place where his body was buried, and the people used these to make flutes that made enchanting sounds like those produced by the body of Uakti.

I had a weird dream the other night. My right leg had been caught in some sort of machine and below the knee was stripped of all flesh leaving only the bones. And yet my foot bones, toes and all were still attached, and even movable at my command. My walking was impaired though, so I went to the doctor to see what I should do. However I kept asking the doctor questions and he kept asking questions right back. He was kind of a jerk about it too. In the end it was clear I was going to have to find my own "solution", but when I turned to leave, I fell down. I had lost control over the bones. That part of me was gone. Dead. It was then I woke up.

Eric Johnson's "Cliffs of Dover" song would have to be on there for the excellent melody and awesome guitar. I mean just check out some of his riffs in this live performance…

And then I think, thanks to my assorted musical devices and other people playing music (and the singing of the birds and assorted insects), I kind of have that already! Music is everywhere.

Thus far I have spared you all from any of the music I hear in my yoga class. Occasionally while we are in a pose for a long time (usually a resting pose), my teacher will turn on music. It is usually a Zen influenced piece of music, that many of you would not appreciate, but today it was some songs from Morcheeba's album "Big Calm". Awesome!

I love their first album and this was the first song I heard off of it. I remember when I first heard it back in the 90s and my friend said "You've got to listen to this." And we listened to this song, and we were in a sort of awe because we had not heard anything quite like it. I love that.

Despite hearing this song ad nauseam on the radio in the 90s, I never actually saw the video until today. It is surprisingly silly, and yet still disturbing with the stretched out faces. I guess there is that whole being sucked into a black hole thing too. That kind of freaks me out sometimes, but only because in my mind "black holes" and "death" are like next door neighbors. They have perfect lawns and watch each other's pets and everything. There's no keeping up with them. They will destroy you!
