Beck – "Lost Cause" (2002)
2011/01/19
There's too many people you used to know
They see you coming they see you go
They know your secrets and you know theirs
This town is crazy; nobody cares
Baby you're lost
Baby you're lost
Baby you're a lost cause

She & Him – "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?" (2008)
2011/01/03
Zooey Deschanel is great, and who doesn't like her duo gig with M. Ward, in "She & Him"? Also G pointed out during our brief sojourn into Brooklyn last year (2010), Zooey Deschanel's haircut and overall look, have become quite popular among the 20-something year olds of the day. Or perhaps that is just "the look" to have these days? Being a man and bald though, I have a ways to go!

I'm looking forward to some vacation with the family in the near future. They are your friends and they care, whether they want to or not!

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros – "Home" (2009)
2010/06/29
I bought a new car. It didn't take as long as I thought it would. I was being picky so the car I wanted (a duplicate of the one that was crashed… specifically a Black 2007 Ford Focus Hatchback) was not available in all of New York State. Fortunately I found a dealer willing to shop around and found one in Missouri for a reasonable price. I took her for a spin and she fit like a glove. So I brought her home.
Funny how personal a car can be. It is important though. It is your home as you travel to places that are not your home. A lot of time and energy is expended buying a car and then keeping it in working order. How it feels on the road is something you become accustomed to such that you object to the way other vehicles handle. It is familiar. Sure a car is just a thing, but the one you pick is an extension of yourself, much like what kinds of clothes you wear.
Hopefully I can make this one last more than 3 months!

Amy Heffernan – "Being Awesome" (2009)
2010/06/15
So I was listening to my iPod on shuffle yesterday and Amy Heffernan's "Without U" came on, and I could've sworn I was listening to Sheryl Crow or Kelly Clarkson. I only recently got Amy's album "Being Awesome", so it had not sunk in yet. I tried to figure out who it was before I looked because I felt like I should know every song on my iPod! I kept thinking "oh this has to be one of those female singer hits from the 90s or early 2000s". But no. It was Amy Heffernan. I gave the album "Being Awesome" another listen and I must say she has managed to fill in the space between the Dixie Chicks and P!nk, 4 Non Blonds and Concrete Blond. Add a touch of country, a dash of pop, a smidgen of rock, and even a kick of punk on occasion, and you get the ever so familiar, and yet new & fresh, Amy Heffernan.
PS: "Without U" is excellent, but I feel like something a little more upbeat… so "Being Awesome" it is!

Dar Williams – "The Christians And The Pagans" (1996)
2009/12/21
I was up late at a winter solstice party and on the way home I heard this song on the radio. I think perhaps I am more Wiccan than not when I hear this line…
And you find magic from your God,
and we find magic everywhere
I've seen Dar Williams multiple times in concert. She was so nonchalant and quirky and fun. I don't go anymore though. It is too bad about that last time I went to see her and ended up getting sucker punched, but that is a story for another time.
