Tracy Byrd – "Ten Rounds With Jose Cuervo" (2002)

2011/01/10

This song is fun! From what I hear, if you go too far with tequila than you tend not to want to drink it ever again. (Fortunately I have avoided this situation and can still enjoy a tumbler of the good stuff, Patron Silver, on occasion.) However, a shot or two of José will certainly take the edge off in a pinch, lemon and salt or not!

G turned on the country station yesterday, and inevitably, they played this song, and inevitably it is stuck in my head this morning! It was as inevitable as praying to the porcelain gods after over 10 rounds with José Cuervo.

Montgomery Gentry – "Lucky Man" (2006)

2010/11/25

I've got a lot of the things Montgomery Gentry has, so I'm pretty lucky myself. I'd go so far as to say you're pretty lucky too! If you are reading this, then you probably have Internet access… things could be worse! You could lose your connection, right!?

PS: Instead of the coffee can, G and I have a "money bunny". It is an old Nestle Quik brown plastic can shaped like the Nestle Quik bunny. It is nice and quiet when I drop my 2 cents in there, and it doesn't break or dent when it falls over. Perfect. Everyone should have a little money bunny, for themselves and their honey.

PPS: Country is always so sappy, isn't it!? TSotD belongs that short bursts of country music is A. O. K. However, as my cousin and his girl pointed out to me, consistent long term exposure to country music can be hazardous to your health.

PPPS: Happy Thanksgiving!

Vicki Lawrence – "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" (1972)

2010/11/17

A story about southern justice. A sort of "where there is smoke there is probably fire" kind of tale. Oh but the surprise is at the ending!

Oh who am I kidding, who listens to all the lyrics these days. (These days being the early 1970s.)

Alison Krauss & Union Station – "The Lucky One" (2001)

2010/08/29

You’re the lucky one so I’ve been told
Free as the wind blowindown the road
Loved by many, hated by none
I’d say you were lucky cause I know what you’ve done
Not a care in the world not a worry in sight
Everything’s going to be all right
Cause you’re the lucky one

You’re the lucky one always havin' fun
A jack of all trades a master of none
You look at the world with a smiling eye
And laugh at the devil as his train rolls by
Just give you a song and a one-night stand
And you’ll be looking at a happy man
Cause you’re the lucky one

I want to be the lucky one! …though G may object to the "one-night stand" bit. A beautiful song, none the less.

PS: About five years ago now, I was on a huge bluegrass kick about this time of year. So now when the cool crisp air of fall hits, I dig them out! Expect a few more in the next month or so!

Old Crow Medicine Show – "Wagon Wheel" (2004)

2010/08/26

I spend all day worrying about the intricate details of data storage, entry, movement, security, blah blah blah…

In the midst of it I was talking about chickens, farming, and even a rooster named Blackie, who (whether he knows it or not) is fighting for the right to be a rooster. To crow at the sun. To be free. Suburbanites are crazy stupid people sometimes. They build and move out next to farms and then bitch and moan about living next to a farm. If you don't ever want to hear roosters or smell cow pies then DON'T MOVE TO THE COUNTRY!

In honor of this local hubbub, something a little closer to home is striking my fancy tonight…

And I gotta get a move on fit for the sun
I hear my baby callin' my name
And I know that she's the only one
And if I die in Raleigh
At least I will die free

The Everly Brothers – "Wake Up Little Susie" (1958)

2010/04/18

Supposed to be home by 10 PM and now it is 4 AM? Yeah. Good luck with the whole "we fell asleep during the movie" line. People didn't believe it then, and they don't believe it now!
