This cover is so good, it was a long time before I knew it was a cover of The Rolling Stones song. This is clearly one of those instances where the cover improved upon the original. Don't you think?
Such a good song. I don't care how many lawsuits The Verve had! It was worth it. The fact it is still one of the top 300 songs sold on Amazon is a tribute to that fact… er… strong opinion.
Right from the opening lyrics…
'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony this life
Trying to make ends meet, you're a slave to the money then you die
I find myself today listening to this song on a precipice. The end and the beginning all a blur. Ultimately though, I am trying not to be a slave to money. Not to chase every dollar I can. Quality of life needs to take some priority, or else what is the money for? And perhaps "I can't change my mold" but there are things I can control to start heading down a different road.
I heard this song on the radio yesterday morning (thanks to Jennifer V. of WBER) and I hadn't heard it so at first I thought it was some sort of cool new 80s influenced singer, but no. It was actually from the 80s. I guess I'm missing the 80s these past few days. Funny thing is it started with "La Roux" who is not from the 80s!
This song is so dreamy. It is perfect because I'm not entirely awake right now. I've had many very busy days, and now I only have five hours of sleep too. My zombification is almost complete. I'm thinking for lunch I should take a nap somewhere (or eat some brains)!
G and I saw M83 open for The Killers over a year ago. I thought they were very different and good for dream pop. Afterwards, about this time of year, a year ago I was listening to M83's "Saturdays = Youth" album quite a bit. It certainly does have a dreamy quality I wish I could hold on to through the day. I'd rather dream away some days than experience the stress and frustration. Reality is always lurking in the shadows of our dreams though.
Dream dressed in blue
It's all they need for now
And forever
Chased by the moon
They shatter their whole peace
With singing
Somebody lurks in the shadows
Somebody whispers
Somebody lurks in the shadows
Yeah yeah yeah
