Scissor Sisters – "Tits on the Radio" (2004)

2009/11/21

Tits. Can you handle it? (The word, not the tits themselves.)

I'm sure some will blush and others will shrug. What drew me into this song wasn't the tits though, it was that sweet bass line. You can especially hear it at the beginning of the song. Oh yeah baby! That's what I am talking about!

By the way, if the watch the fan made video note that it isn't really Rated G, and probably not even PG-13. I'm sure you can handle it though. (The video, not the tits themselves.) Eyes up here! Oh wait… right. I'm a boy.

Shiny Toy Guns – "Le Disko" (2006)

2009/09/09

I felt like something with a little edge this morning. Shiny Toy Guns hit the spot with their dark New Wave. It makes you want to pull out your black leather and chains, right?

Freezepop – "Less Talk More Rokk" (2006)

2009/08/31

Freezepop is well named. They are totally frivolous electric pop. Even the band members describe their music as "sweet and cold and fruity and plastic-y". Indeed they are like the tasty treat they are named after. You either love them or you hate them. I think both are delicious but in large quantities your teeth or ears may ache!

Golden Boy with Miss Kittin – "Rippin Kittin (Glove Radiomix)" (2002)

2009/05/04

After I wrote about DJ Earworm's – "The Night of Kittin's Messy Dream", I decided to check out the album "Or" by Golden Boy and Miss Kittin. I would have to say this remixed song is the best song on there. Some of the album is skip-able, but this song is enticing in the same sort of sick twisted way Greenskeepers' – "Lotion" is. The video is kind of funny too because she is a creepy at times, and then she is dancing on the edge of buildings and railways and she is totally not creepy. Almost funny. I guess that's a lesson for us all: just because the little girl is dancing doesn't mean she's not going to kill you for pleasure. So watch out!

The Knife – "Pass This On" (2003)

2009/04/17

I first heard of "The Knife" on an "NPR – All Songs Considered" music review of the album "Silent Shout". I loved them immediately and I still think they are totally unique, quirky and fun.

This song is a perfect example, between the steel drums, Karin's unusual singing, and the dancing drag queen (Rickard Engfors, not actually a member of the band, but one of Sweden's premiere queens apparently). Despite their music appearing on some TV shows, like "CSI" and "Ugly Betty", they appear to be totally unknown to the average American. I get a lot of blank stares from people when I mention their name and I have yet to run into anyone who really knew their music before I introduced them. America, you're missing out!

PS: I didn't realize the dancer in the video was not a woman at first. I just thought maybe she looked different because she was Swedish. Heh.

Ladytron – "Destroy Everything You Touch" (2005)

2009/04/01

Whenever it seems like I cannot do anything right, everything I do or say is wrong, and I would've been better off staying in bed, I play this song, and at least it makes me smile. Despite the ruin of my day and life at least I have this song and a smile.

This might be an appropriate April Fools' Day song too for any of you victims or victors out there! Replace the salt with sugar, tape the kitchen sink sprayer closed, super glue pennies to the pavement, set other peoples' alarm clocks a bit early, and put on your running shoes. You may need them.
