This supergroup including John Paul Jones (of Led Zeppelin), Dave Grohl (of Nirvana & Foo Fighters) and Josh Homme (of Queens of the Stone Age) is worth a listen. Generally I've been avoiding any political comments or discussion here on TSotD.com. It tends to just upset me. But today I would like to give props to the Federal Judge Vaughn Walker in California who overturned California's Proposition 8 yesterday.

I do not understand or agree with those who oppose allowing same sex marriages. The arguments against allowing gay marriage are either religious, speculative, or blatantly bigoted & prejudiced.

Religion: Last I checked, the Freedom of Religion was still in the Bill of Rights. The definition of marriage as written in the bible or any other holy book, does not apply because of our freedom of religion. Some religions or individual churches welcome the bond between two people who love each other regardless of gender. (See a list here.) So your restrictive religion has no right to restrict other religions just because you say so. Your religion does not define our laws. Period.

Speculative: Some say it is bad and unnatural because gays cannot create offspring with each other. So we should put up other barriers to make their union even more difficult? With that kind of logic people of different races should not be allowed to marry either because of the possible cultural differences! And to those who believe it somehow "undermines" marriage as a whole, I think that perhaps you should all be more concerned about your own marriages and possibility of divorce than worrying about others'. Divorce rates were high before any state allow same sex marriages, so hasn't it already been undermined? Really I would anticipate a surge in the number of marriages, thus strengthening "the institution", if "the institution" is what you are so concerned about, and you aren't just using this speculation to cover up your own prejudices. And speaking of prejudice…

Prejudice: Go jump in a lake. Or climb a tree. Or fuck yourself. Whatever makes you happy. As I have expressed before (and Lily Allen too), I am not okay with your prejudice. We are not friends. Or if we are and I didn't realize you were so bigoted, then it has been fun, and perhaps you should reconsider why you hate homosexuals. Perhaps one made you uncomfortable because they found you attractive? Perhaps you liked it but didn't want to? Whatever the reason, go get over it. Another person's sexual decisions are their own to make and unless you are in a relationship of sorts with them, then it is none of your business.

…so to you 53% of Americans who still oppose gay marriages (per a Gallup Poll in May 2010), what the fuck!? If homosexuals are allowed to marry, you will still be allowed to marry. Your existing marriages will not disintegrate. If two people love each other then they should have the same legal rights as any other two (adult) people who love each other, regardless of age*, gender, race, shoe size, and whether they prefer their bread buttered or not. Love and sweet emotions will prevail!

PS: Sure I could've gone with Erasure, Elton John, K.D. Lang or a number of other homosexual artists, but I thought Aerosmith might draw in some of the crazy straight people who need a verbal… er… text based… spanking. Plus it is all about the emotion right, otherwise none of us would care?

PPS: * = I think below a certain age, marriage rights, heterosexual or homosexual, should probably be limited. What is that age? Well that is another debate for another day.

PPPS: I'm still not sure about polygamy, because simply from an Information Technology point of view it becomes a nightmare and my job is hard enough as is trying to keep track of one marriage at a time, let along a tree, linked list, or grid/map of marriages. If you want mass orgies though …go nuts, you horny bastards… but be safe!

There are a lot of idiots out there.

With the Olympics on TV, I've been seeing a lot of advertisements. There is a set of ads for "clean coal" proclaiming we need to grow our coal industry and create jobs. I am disgusted. They try to pull on your heart strings showing families and soldiers, as if not using coal will fail them, and make America fail. They even show good sources of energy like wind turbines to make you think clean coal is just as good. Are you kidding me!? Sadly, there are a lot of idiots out there who may just fall for such obvious manipulation and propaganda by "America's Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity". Clean coal is not "the solution" to anything. Clean coal still emits gobs of carbon dioxide, which as we know, is a greenhouse gas. Perhaps the record high temperatures in Vancouver and the Pacific Northwest last summer in 2009, which may be a factor for why there has been very little snow for the Olympics, has been forgotten? The melting of the ice caps are apparently not proof enough for everyone that the globe is indeed warming on average? (See some shocking images and analysis on nasa.gov.) Did a little snow in Texas and Florida make everyone fail to notice that we have been setting more and more record high temperatures than record low temperatures over the years?

Investing in any fossil fuels at all is ultimately a waste of time and resources. I am with GreenDaily.com. The evidence is overwhelming that global warming, climate change, or whatever you want to call it ("humans screwing themselves" perhaps?) is real. Clean coal is not going to help. Where is Jimi when we need him to set these douche bags straight?

Also known as "The Black Album", Metallica's "Metallica" is THE Metallica album in my mind. Sure I've heard most of the others, but this is the one I go to first. Really I'm not much of a heavy metal fan compared to other genres, and without Metallica I wonder if I would've developed any taste for it at all. But how can you not love this album! When I am feeling that tinge of pissed, or perhaps some scorn for the world, or I just need to feel like I did back in the early 90s listening with my friends to feel bad ass even though we were anything but, this album is definitely a top pick for me. All you non-heavy metal fans should give it a try, you might just like it. Oh and when you do start to bang your head, don't stand too close to the wall. It hurts.

Here are my 5 favorites from the album, with "The Unforgiven" being my favorite (though I think "Enter Sandman" is a very close 2nd).

Welcome to my new site! What is that you say? It looks just like the old one? Well it is amazing how much work it is to move a blog. I like to think of it as moving a house over 1 millimeter. It is a shit load of work but you barely notice any difference. The song of the day is appropriately some hard rock for some hard work!

All you wordpress.com bloggers out there, do not be fooled!!! If you leave wordpress.com for your own hosting it will take you at least a full day to move your blog somewhere else. You will run into issues. If you do not know SQL or have access to the database, you will likely be updating every page and post you ever made. You will have moments where you think maybe you just broke everything too! Note that backing up your files and database as much as possible is a good idea. The process is stressful and scary and will leave you very tired and grumpy. G has been calling me things like "Mr. Grumpy Pants" all day!

I have been taking care of business though, so the move is 99% complete! Goodbye MSotD… Hello TSotD (The Song of the Day)! I still have some stuff to clean up and I did not get around to changing my theme or anything as dramatically as I had hoped. I'm just happy the pages are loading at the moment and I might just get to go to bed at a reasonable hour!

PS: I realize I've missed some days posting songs and am well overdue for an album of the week! Hopefully with the move just about complete I can get back on track!

I woke up this morning with Pearl Jam's "Alive" in my head for no discernable reason. It has been months since I heard any Pearl Jam and possibly years since I heard this song, "Alive", Memory is a funny and sometimes random thing.

Back in school the question was frequently "who do you like more, Pearl Jam or Nirvana?" I was always a Nirvana fan. Though endearing now 15 years later, Pearl Jam was just "alright" to me at the time. I didn't seek them out like I did Nirvana. Nirvana seemed more edgy and extreme and that appealed to me, though I am neither. I suppose I wish I were. I know I didn't need to choose either one but such is the ridiculousness of middle school and high school, where you feel like you have to choose this or that to define yourself. Screw that! Have both if you want both! Don't let silly questions like that or social boundaries define you. And definitely don't let it limit your musical tastes!

Whoa! Hello 1984! This song sparks memories of my youth. Short shorts and big collars on my shirt. Innocence and ignorance I have since lost.

And oh my god does Bruce look young in the video! He is like a baby! And yet in just this past Superbowl XLIII he was sliding across the stage, bumping his crotch into the camera…

… I guess he is just still young at heart.

I was watching when it happened too (the slide into the camera). I felt bad for him because clearly he underestimated how slick the stage was. I thought for sure there'd be another "Nipplegate (RE: Janet Jackson) because Americans are so incredibly stupid about such things, but Bruce's friends, let's call them "Big Jim and the Boys", stayed inside that night, so it was all "ok". Janet Jackson's bare breast = OUTRAGE! Over 100 people dying every day in car accidents in the USA = SNORE! Now perhaps if the car accidents were on football fields they'd feel differently?
