Iron & Wine – "Naked As We Came" (2004)

2010/06/06

Unable to sleep last night, I have achieved little today. Lots of reflection on my life and the accident. Perhaps too much. This song along with Death Cab for Cutie's "I Will Follow You into the Dark" have been in my ears all day. I'm still jarred but I've gotten over it a bit.

I have started mourning my car too. She was basically a new car though she was a 2007. She was perfect too and according to some online sites I may not be able to get one just like her unless I leave the state! I want one just like her though. I wanted a car like her for 10 years and only had her 3 months. I don't think I'll be satisfied with any other. Buying one just like her will be like undoing the accident in my mind.

Iron & Wine – "Passing Afternoon" (2004)

2009/12/06

There is only so much time in each day. There are only so many days we have to live.

There are things that drift away like our endless, numbered days.

To what end? I believe it is up to us to make our own purpose in life. Our own goals, hopes, and dreams should be the reasons we keep on with the keeping on. It is not enough to just survive.

I've been pondering it more and more lately because I am displeased with my current daily occupation. I am not truly pursuing my purpose to the extent that I wish to. I am pursuing the wealth of others far removed from me. People who only consider me nothing more than a figure on their ledger, a number, a head count, are my beneficiaries more and more, and my benefactors less and less. I wish to make a more perfect world for myself and those around me, yet I am constrained and squeezed. I fulfill goals that have little interest for me. I am but a tool in someone else's toolbox, being used only to be replaced once worn down. I need to break free.

Perhaps it is the cold of winter, the shortend days, or the reality of another year passed that leaves me feeling a bit melancholy today. I wish for a change. I do not wish to simply live my life as a passive member of the herd, accepting everything thrown at me just because it is easier. I wish to make something of myself, for myself. I wish to enjoy more of the moments of my days ahead, instead of only glimpses of each day. I do not wish to let my days simply drift away, or worse, to wish them away.

Wish me luck! I wish you luck too!

Iron & Wine – "Such Great Heights" (2004)

2009/04/02

If you have not seen the movie "Garden State" yet, then why are you reading this. Quick! Download it! Rent it! Drive to the nearest video store if you must and watch it! Watch it now! But wait… I must not build up your expectations too much. So expect nothing. An infinite abyss perhaps. Just watch and enjoy. It is definitely in my top 10 favorite movies.

This bonus song of the day, featured in the movie, is a cover of The Postal Service's original. The lyrics are beautiful and in many ways I think Iron & Wine may have improved upon the original. Although, in many ways it is an entirely different song. Both are worth your ears, but this one holds a special place in my heart.
