I rarely watch late night shows, but I just happened to be up and watching Craig Ferguson's "The Late Late Show" after going to see Eisely in concert on 10/28. Rodrigo y Gabriela played "Buster Voodoo" and it was one of those performances where I just could not take my eyes off of them because it was so different and so impressive. I don't care how long you've been playing guitar, they are doing things on their acoustic guitars you probably could only dream of. So fast. So unique.

I believe this second video is of the album version and if you listen to both, note the energy and speed of the live performance:

Robert Rodríguez is an inspiration. He is an artist in so many ways, as a film producer, director, cinematographer, writer, editor, and of course, a musician. Chingón, which stands for "badass" by the way, was started by him. This song, which played at the credits of "Kill Bill Vol. 2" impressed me greatly, and further when I learned he was involved. I bought their album "Mexican Spaghetti Western" immediately, and it is good. This song is my favorite from them.

I later learned that this song, "Malagueña Salerosa", was not written by Chingón though, but is actually a Mexican folk song, and has been played for decades. What is it about? "The song is that of a man telling a woman (from Málaga) how beautiful she is, and how he would love to be her man, but that he understands her rejecting him for being too poor." May it live on forever, thanks to Chingón.

PS: Do see Kill Bill if you haven't already. Both volumes are truly one movie and perhaps one of the best "films" I have ever seen. Volume 1 was so good, as soon as the credits ended, I ran out and rented Volume 2. G and I then watched every bit of extras on both DVDs we could. Excellent soundtrack too, this song aside. I need to watch them both again, now that I think of it. Excuse me.
