Frédéric Chopin – "Nocturne In E-Flat Major, Op.9 No.2" (1833)

2010/01/22

I've been listening to Muse's latest album "The Resistance" a lot the past few weeks, and enjoying their ending to "United States of Eurasia", which is a portion of Frédéric Chopin's "Nocturne In E-Flat Major, Op.9 No.2". I love it when classical music just kind of springs up on me by surprise. In this case, with Muse's album, it has drawn me to the song, and ultimately to the original piece by Chopin. You might think it a cheap trick of Muse to include it, or perhaps an homage. Either way, you and I would probably not be listening to it now without Muse's influence, so I thank them for reminding me of it.

The performer of the rendition above is Arthur Rubinstein in 1965. I listened to portions of performances by several of the great pianists. Arthur Rubinstein's had a certain delicate nature that compliments the piece beautifully so I present to you.

Muse – "Uprising" (2009)

2010/01/08

I may have inadvertently overlooked Muse's album "The Resistance" for my "Top 10 Best Albums of 2009". This song, "Uprising", in particular has caught my attention. I must point out that when I hear the opening to this song all I can think about is Dr. Who's opening song.

Album of the Week: Muse – "Black Holes and Revelations" (2006)

2009/09/14

Track 2: Starlight:

A friend of mine handed "Black Holes and Revelations" to me back in 2006 as a gift. It was a couple months before I even listened once. They did not sink in at first. One day while I was painting G's and my bedroom though it sunk in. I listened to it over and over for hours and hours. I have concluded that Muse is addictive, and particularly good for listening to during long arduous tasks. They keep the blood flowing, and I particularly enjoy "Black Holes and Revelations". Perhaps you will too?

Here are my 5 favorites from the album, with "Starlight" being my favorite.

Muse – "New Born" (2001)

2009/04/06

I was sold on this song the moment I heard the keyboards in the beginning of the song. I was actually unaware of Muse until their album "Black Holes and Revelations" came out and I listened to it over and over and over. Clearly I was missing out. I love the variety in their songs, the thickness, the rise to climax, the emotion… At points they remind me of U2 too (I'm a die hard U2 fan so it only makes me like them more.)

Also these guys did what we all want to do but don't have the guts to. They dropped out of college and quit their jobs to focus on the band. Four albums later they play in stadiums and their music is in soundtracks. Excuse me while I go practice.
