Michael Bennett – "Dance: Ten; Looks: Three (from A Chorus Line)" (1975)

2009/08/25

My Aunt is a huge fan of the musical "A Chorus" line. She has seen it something like 6 times on Broadway, and several other non-Broadway productions. Crazy. G and I had an opportunity to see a local production with her last week. I thought it was alright, some songs better than others. Some parts better than others. Aside from "One" which everyone knows whether they know it or not, this song "Dance: Ten; Looks: Three" was particularly entertaining and funny. I'm sure a lot of people know this song as "Tits and Ass".

The recording above is of the original Broadway cast from 1975, with Pamela Blair singing. I actually think the performance of the song we saw last week was better, probably just because it was live.

Steve Sharples – "Bolero (Closing Credits to Moulin Rouge)" (2001)

2009/03/30

This is my bonus song of the day from the closing credits of Moulin Rouge. When I first heard this I was very impressed and left wanting for more, but thus far there has been little I have heard similar to this sort of "industrial orchestral" sound. I love the two beat feeling created by the percussion, the way it speeds up as it progresses, and the build to the climax. Brilliant!

Unfortunately I cannot even find anything else composed by Steve Sharples. Googling produces 5,000,000 links to this song and nothing else. He is a ghost. If anyone knows of anything else composed by Steve Sharples, please let me know via the comments below.
