The Dead Weather – "Treat Me Like Your Mother" (2009)

2010/07/05

I interpret this video as a visualization of how a break up feels. Don't try this at home.

I re-enacted the video this morning during a breakup this morning (with some weeds, in the garden). I used a semi-automatic (trowel) and wore my best leather (gloves). Yeah. I'm a bad mother-fucker. Watch out or I'll bury (and compost) your ass!

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros – "Home" (2009)

2010/06/29

I bought a new car. It didn't take as long as I thought it would. I was being picky so the car I wanted (a duplicate of the one that was crashed… specifically a Black 2007 Ford Focus Hatchback) was not available in all of New York State. Fortunately I found a dealer willing to shop around and found one in Missouri for a reasonable price. I took her for a spin and she fit like a glove. So I brought her home.

Funny how personal a car can be. It is important though. It is your home as you travel to places that are not your home. A lot of time and energy is expended buying a car and then keeping it in working order. How it feels on the road is something you become accustomed to such that you object to the way other vehicles handle. It is familiar. Sure a car is just a thing, but the one you pick is an extension of yourself, much like what kinds of clothes you wear.

Hopefully I can make this one last more than 3 months!

Beulah – "Emma Blowgun's Last Stand" (1999)

2010/06/17

After yesterday's pick, which resulted in some strong feelings, some negative, some positive, I just want to reiterate that all music… nay… all sounds (which might even remotely be considered a "song") are fair game here at TSotD. Strong feelings, even negative, only encourage me! Also I'd like you all to keep in mind that part of my mission & goal, is to expose myself (and you too) to all kinds of music and expand music appreciation. There may be things you don't like, and that is ok.

Moving on…

A new day… another song… An favorite of mine from what now feels like a lifetime away by a band still largely unknown but no less awesome. I saw them open once upon a time for the The Apples in Stereo and they were awesome. Those who where there with me remember how awesome that concert was, I'm sure. This song is a taste of those good times!

MGMT – "Electric Feel" (2007)

2010/03/12

Friday is here everyone! I know for some it is not a big deal. Lately for me it keeps me going. The weekend is freedom and cause for joy. Electric Feel is in my head and it seems an appropriate song for the celebration! I know it is stuck in my head because it was the last song I heard yesterday, but details details.

By the way, MGMT is coming out with a new album next month (April 2010). I love "Kids" (which I posted last year), "Time to Pretend" and "Electric Feel" but I must say the rest of the album "Oracular Spectacular" was not nearly so good. I question their longevity, but hopefully I am wrong. I am wondering if they will be able to repeat their success? Will it be more solid? Will it have a couple good singles and the rest filler? I guess we will see. No pressure.

Animal Collective – "My Girls" (2009)

2009/12/27

You receive these gifts, and they are fun and all, but you don't really need them. Perhaps you should be giving away other things in order to make room for the new things? That's what I think. Really I was feeling grateful before Christmas for what I have. I've got G, and our kitties… a house and fridge full of food. How lucky am I? Many people dream of such things. Like the song says…

I don't mean to seem like I
Care about material things,
Like a social status,
I just want
Four walls and adobe slats
For my girls

The Chemical Brothers – "Let Forever Be" (1999)

2009/10/15

Things can be so frustrating! I know my options though: take control or accept what comes. Surrender or don't. Like what Yoda says "Do, or do not. There is no 'try.'" In the mean time, "scream out sympathy" and watch the fun video.

Grizzly Bear – "Two Weeks" (2009)

2009/09/22

OMG! You have to watch the video for Grizzly Bear's "Two Weeks". The kids are so creepy. Then what happens to them is creepier. And in a church! (I knew there was a good reason not to go.) So creepy, yet mesmerizing and oddly perfect for the song.
