Dead or Alive – "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" (1985)

2009/09/24

As I recall, G and her best friend played this song a lot years ago. Over and over. There was definitely dancing involved too. Ever since, I immediately think of G when I hear this song, which is surprisingly frequent (the hearing of the song, the thinking of G is frequent w/o the song… he he). Today being G's day, I wanted to pick a song that is happy & fun, and her's in my mind.

Grey Eye Glances – "Sleepy" (1998)

I get so tired sometimes. I try to do so much and yet accomplish so little. Today for example I worked from 6 AM until 3 PM, only to rush home, paint the front porch, cut the lawn, shower, eat dinner, and poof, it was already 8:30 PM. A full day of work and yet the lawn will need cutting in a week, and my day job is an endless list of inane tasks most of the time. Painting the front porch was fun I suppose. If only I could cut out the things I really do not want to do. Oh the time I would have.

Fortunately this blog barely takes any time each day, but I do wonder where I am going to go with it next. How do I make it more enticing? Do I care? Should I quit and seek out being a DJ of some sort? What am I doing? I have these questions and more and no answers other than I enjoy it as it is for now, so it will continue as is for now. Aside from a few friends who are too kind, I doubt I have many "readers" per se. I provide very little to read anyway and it is never as funny as I wish it could be. I'm just not that funny. If anything the day to day topics are schizophrenic, jumping all over the place. No theme, just whatever the hell I feel like blabbing. I might was well just write *squawk squawk squawk* most days.

That is ok. This blog is mostly about the music anyway. That was the point of this blog. To share music. To say "hey, I like this song, you should check it out". Let's face it. Any blathering I do is really for me. You reading it is just icing on my cake. If anything I should write more about what is making me happy or sad… what is really pissing me off. Perhaps another day. For now I am just sleepy and will be going to bed shortly. This fun and catchy song by Grey Eye Glances will be my anthem as I march to bed.

Album of the Week: Muse – "Black Holes and Revelations" (2006)

2009/09/14

Track 2: Starlight:

A friend of mine handed "Black Holes and Revelations" to me back in 2006 as a gift. It was a couple months before I even listened once. They did not sink in at first. One day while I was painting G's and my bedroom though it sunk in. I listened to it over and over for hours and hours. I have concluded that Muse is addictive, and particularly good for listening to during long arduous tasks. They keep the blood flowing, and I particularly enjoy "Black Holes and Revelations". Perhaps you will too?

Here are my 5 favorites from the album, with "Starlight" being my favorite.

Shiny Toy Guns – "Le Disko" (2006)

2009/09/09

I felt like something with a little edge this morning. Shiny Toy Guns hit the spot with their dark New Wave. It makes you want to pull out your black leather and chains, right?

Supertramp – "The Logical Song" (1979)

2009/08/08

A good friend is someone who you haven't seen in seven years, yet when they are in town for only two days, they call you up and you hang out like hardly any time has passed at all.

G and I were fortunate enough to hang out with just such a friend this week. I know we had many similar musical tastes, but in particular I recall this friend introducing me to Supertramp, and playing this album at her house. This song goes out to her.

Genesis – "Land of Confusion" (1986)

2009/07/16

I won't be coming home tonight
My generation will put it right
We're not just making promises
That we know, well never keep.

Yeah right. 23 years later you still have not solved all the world's problems with your music, Phil Collins. Your generation did squat for helping or preventing the problems of today. As you say in the song…

There's too many men
Too many people
Making too many problems
And not much love to go round

Of course our economic and political systems favor the rich and powerful at the expense of the weak and poor. Even here in the USA. Definitely here in the USA. I don't believe that is changing anytime soon either. People are just too greedy. Too selfish. Too hypocritical. It is instinctual to always take what you can and always want a more perfect world for yourself.

Can't you see
This is a land of confusion.

Those who are in control are always fed and clothed regardless of how many in the streets are not. They are so ugly by their actions and words, like the masks in the video. As my grandmother always said about our leaders, "They're all crooks!"

Rush – "YYZ" (1981)

2009/06/17

This song is too cool. It is packed with awesome riffs. It appeals to the geek in me too because YYZ in Morse Code ( - . - -   - . - -   - - . . ) is played over and over in the song.

The fan made video is pretty awesome too. I wish I could drum half as well or had half as many toms and crash cymbals. (I just have the standard 3 toms, 1 bass, 1 snare, 1 high hat and 1 ride cymbal.)
